DVF has done – done it again! I love the combination of clean tailored styling with her traditional mix of pop colors and prints. Undoubtably, I adore the short-long-sleeve-neon wrap dress; a classic silhouette she manages to reinvent every season! Another collection – well designed! (oh and by the way… I need those shoes asap…thanks)… (size 9)

Coca-Cola has teamed with Diane Von Furstenberg to offer customers a limited-edition collection of aluminum bottles splashed with her signature prints in red and black.
The bottle will be available at select DVF boutiques throughout February ($30 for a set of four). This signature eye-catching collection will see 100 percent of proceeds go to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) in support of The Heart Truth program for women’s heart health research.

The word on the street is that designer Diane Von Furstenberg will be designing a line for Gap Kids. The collection will most likely be released in Spring/Summer 2012 – which for us fashion junkies is right around the corner!
I am anxious to see what she has up her sleeve for this collection. Surely there will be plenty of print combinations and dainty silhouettes – But I am crossing my fingers that she adds a baby wrap dress to the mix! Now THAT I would love to see!

Does age really matter when it comes to fashion?
The CFDA releases a list of guidelines designers are encouraged to follow in an effort to make the most healthy model selections for runway.
Diane Von Furstenburg, CFDA president, discovered that one of her girls (Hailey Clauson) had slipped through the cracks and was under the age of 16. Realizing the mishap, she wrote a letter to her fellow colleagues apologizing for mistakenly stepping outside the CFDA guidelines:
…”I was horrified and terribly embarrassed. From now on I will instruct my casting people to demand IDs. I encourage you to do the same.” …
15 yr old Hailey Clauson has graced the runway for numerous designers since her debut at NY Fashion Week in Sept 2010. That season she ended up walking for ADAM, Z Spoke by Zac Posen, and Calvin Klein shows and went on to walk for Gucci, Versace, Christian Dior, Lanvin, Hermès, Miu Miu, and Louis Vuitton. She is currently a face of Gucci and DSquared2 (nymag.com).
With the immense use of Hailey Causon it’s apparent that designers are more concerned with the “look” than the actual age of the model.

When I decided not to write for a few days to let the DVF posting marinate…one of the readers sent in a great request!

So Anon – this is for you! =)
Yes, some of these fun pattern/color combos can be quite discouraging and aren’t for everyone, but beauty AND fashion is in the eye of the beholder. These prints were more major than previous seasons and the colors, simultaneously bolder and more subtle. But a key concept to remember when viewing fashion shows is that it’s not always about the complete outfit that comes down the runway…
Let me dissect!
If you have ever worked in visuals for a retailer, especially for those that are trendy – you know that the corporate guidelines want you to showcase the most current pieces AND (all together now)… LAYER LAYER LAYER! Why? So that you can showcase more than one piece to the consumer.
Well, on the runway its somewhat similar – their window display… is the runway.
In the case of some designers, they present all outfits that are wearable as is, and for others, its all about the concepts of each piece, the silhouette, the colors, inspiration, and so forth.
So when your watching runway shows or clicking through style.com photos – don’t just look… but listen to what the designer is saying about upcoming colors, silhouettes, prints and patterns, hems, etc. In doing so, you’ll gain more of a respect for the “Art” of fashion design and be on board with upcoming fashion trends.

The DVF collection, entitled “Goddess”, had a strong mix of tailored pieces as well as French inspired draping that were both emphasized silhouettes throughout the collection.
One of the most important elements of DVF is sophistication and elegance – despite what the DVF girl has on, she is always representing herself with these attributes.
DVF and her new design partner Yvan Mispelaere unleashed a kinetic energy with a series of prints: clouds, broken waves, Greek keys, and marbled wings – which DVF described as “lyrical and open; architectural and fluid; mixed and matched…an understated elegance.” (Lisa Martinez)
Could it have been this fine young gentleman (Yvan Mispelaere) that has added a bolder tweek to the DVF collection? With a background of designing for Gucci and Chloe you can certainly understand that this man has a vision for the DVF collection and has done a fine job of introducing new concepts.
